Automotive makeup technology has made significant advancements over the times, more or less you could principally class the products into 2 orders, Thermoset & Thermoplastics.

Thermosets-These are the products that cure irreversibly. They bear a catalyst which causes a chemical response creating a cross linked product. This would generally include your clearcoats, manuals, sealers, panelbond, cushion form accoutrements & indeed plastic fenders themselves.
Thermoplastics-These are products that remain answerable after drying. They're generally 1 element (no hardener) and don't cross link. They can be broken down by whatever solvent they're being reduced with. This would include your basecoats, 1 element manuals/ maquillages, 1 part form accoutrements (ie. window urethane/ confluence sealers). Fiberglass spray paint
What's Cross linking?
Cross linking is a chemical response that causes a group of polymers ( synthetic or naturally being accoutrements) to bond together with a relation. Cross linking produces one large patch of your makeup film, it makes it veritably strong and durable. The relation depends on the resin (ie library paste, urethane, polyester) & each relation has its advantages and disadvantages. Then is a look at a many different types of resins

Library paste- Library paste forms the strongest bond because of the unique cross linking network produced. Library paste provides superior adhesion and erosion resistance. The biggest advantage library paste offers is its strength and continuity, drying times are generally slower. Library paste resins are also broken down fluently by UV shafts which doesn't make library paste coatings ideal for greatcoats.
Urethane-Urethane is produced by the response of disocynates and di-alchols. They produce a strong cross linked urethane chain. Urethane has a great deal of inflexibility in the types of products it can be created for. It's know for its quick drying times. Uses include manuals, clearcoats, basecoats, structural bonds, cushion form bonds.

Polyester-Polyester forms a strong bond exercising the ester relation and can be further corroborated with filaments to ameliorate it. Polyester has the loftiest tendency to shrink but is low in cost compared to the other resins. Uses include bodyfillers, fiberglass, manuals & some basecoats.
Plant vs Refinishing Procedures

For the utmost part the same resins are use just in a different way. Library paste can be applied through the electro- deposit rather also scattering. Urethane products are generally scattered and also toast actuated. The products are handed with the hardener in it and are designed not to spark until they reach a certain temperature, generally around 200 degrees.
