Cationic starch-grafted-cationic polyacrylamide based graphene oxide ternary composite flocculant for the enhanced flocculation of oil sludge suspension
In this study, a novel, highly efficient and environmentally friendly ternary composites flocculant,polyacrylamide pricenamely, cationic starch-grafted-cationic polyacrylamide/graphene oxide (CS-g-CPAM/GO), was synthesized by ammonium persulfate initiation polymerization and condensation reaction. First, CS-g-CPAM was polymerized with cationic starch (CS), acrylamide (AM) and diallyl dimethyl ammonium chloride (DMDAAC), and CS-g-CPAM/GO was then synthesized by condensation reaction. The influence factors of graft polymerization were investigated, including total monomer concentration, initiator dosage, monomer mass ratio of mAM: mCS: mDMDAAC, post-polymerization temperature and post-polymerization time. The chemical structures and morphologies of the samples were characterized by Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermo-gravimetric and differential scanning calorimetry (TG-DSC), and scanning electron microscope (SEM). The CS-g-CPAM/GO was used to flocculate the oil sludge suspension, the effects of CS-g-CPAM/GO dosage, temperature and pH value on the flocculation performance were investigated, and the flocculation mechanism of CS-g-CPAM/GO was also analyzed. anionic polyacrylamide flocculant The results show that CS-g-CPAM/GO has outstanding flocculation effect, and CS-g-CPAM/GO flocculates oil sludge particles by adsorption bridging and charge neutralization in acidic and alkaline conditions.

Benzene, toluene and xylene (BTX) belong to an important group of aromatic volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that are usually emitted from various sources. BTX play a vital role in the tropospheric chemistry as well as pose health hazard to human beings. Thus, an investigation of ambient benzene, toluene and xylene (BTX) was conducted at urban and rural sites of Gorakhpur for a span of one year in order to ascertain the contamination levels. The sampling of BTX was performed by using a low-flow SKC Model 220 sampling pump equipped with activated coconut shell charcoalcoconut shell activated carbon supplier tubes with a flow rate of 250 ml/min for 20-24 h. The analysis was in accordance with NIOSH method 1501. The efficiency of pump was checked weekly using regulated rotameters with an accuracy of ±1%. The samples were extracted with CS2 with occasional agitation and analyzed by GC-FID. The total BTX concentration ranged from 3.4 μg m-3 to 45.4 μg m-3 with mean value 30.95 μg m-3 and median 24.8 μg m-3. The mean concentration of total BTX was maximum during winter (39.3 μg m-3), followed by summer (28.4 μg m-3) and monsoon season (25.1 μg m-3). The mean concentration of BTX at urban site (11.8 μg m-3) was higher than that at rural site (8.8 μg m-3). At both the sites, T/B and X/B ratios were highest in monsoon and lowest in winters. Toluene against benzene plot shows R2 value of 0.96 and 0.49 at urban and rural sites respectively. Higher R2 value at urban site clearly indicates similar sources of emission for benzene and toluene. At both the sites, the estimated integrated lifetime cancer risk (ILTCR) for benzene exceeded the threshold value of 1E-06 whereas the individual hazard quotients (HQ) for BTX did not exceed unity at any of the sites.

Hierarchical nanoporous activated carbon as potential electrode materials for high performance electrochemical supercapacitor
Recently, biomass-derived activated carbon wanyang activated carbonnanomaterials represent a potential candidate in achieving sustainable and low-cost energy storage devices. Herein, we report a facile synthesis of hierarchical nanoporous activated carbon (NAC) by template-free and cost effective approach using bio-derived food waste namely “Indian Cake Rusk” (ICR) and its application in high performance supercapacitors for the first time. The influence of carbon activation process over the physicochemical properties, morphological structure, as well as supercapacitive performance was systematically studied. When used as an electrode in a supercapacitor, the as-synthesized NAC material offered a high specific capacitance of 381.0 F g-1 at a current density of 1.7 A g−1 with an impressive 95% capacity retention even after 6000 cycles using 1.0 M H2SO4 electrolyte. The NAC material also furnished a maximum energy density of 47.1 Wh kg−1 and power density of 22644.0 W kg−1 which is higher than the existing carbon based electrode using 1.0 M LiPF6 electrolyte in symmetric supercapacitor.

Powdered activated carbon augmented double react-settle sequencing batch reactor process for treatment of landfill leachate

These SBRs were a non-powdered activated carbon SBR (NPAC-SBR), powdered activated carbon SBR (PAC-SBR), and double react-settle SBR (DRS-SBR). Powdered activated carbon was used to augment the SBR process in the PAC and DRS reactors. The first two reactors operate on five conventional phases (i.e., fill, react, settle, draw, and idle), whereas the third operates on seven phases (i.e., fill, react I, settle I, react II, settle II, draw, and idle). Raw landfill leachate was treated in 20 experiments. The PAC- and DRS-SBRs exhibited better performance, improved sludge characteristics, and superior aeration energy savings compared with the NPAC-SBR. Results for mean sludge volume index, total dry solids in sludge, saved aeration energy, removed ammonia, chemical oxygen demand, color, and total dissolved salts were 334.4 mL/g, 1.06%, 0%, 89.4%, − 42.9, 10.2%, and 35.9% , respectively, for the NPAC-SBR, and 27.5 mL/g, 2.01%, 64.03%, 85.5%, 50.4, 45%, and 38.3%, respectively, for the DRS-SBR. Analysis and comparison of the most commonly used switching technologies in pulse generators were made. The device is designed by two parallel two-stage Marx-bank circuits with SiC mosfets that generates up to 200 A in the resonant network. A driving circuit for stable simultaneous switching of SiC mosfets was developed. The developed generator can deliver from 500 V to more than 6 kV, approximately 8 ns pulses to a 50 Ω load. Even though the amplitude of the output pulse is not as high as expected, the multiplication factor [Formula: see text] is still approximately 9, which is an improvement compared to the previously published linear DOS generator. The model describes the kinetic adsorption data very well for all of the tested PACs in different source waters. Activated Carbon (AC)dxdcarbon.comcan be used to reduce organic micropollutants (OMPs) in wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs). While producing ACs conventionally still damages the environment, this can be reduced by using renewable raw material from waste streams und producing AC locally. In this study, fibers (toilet paper) were separated out of wastewater by screening WWTP influents in full scale and then used as a no-cost, carbon-rich and heavy metal-poor raw material to produce ACs. Pretreatment was hydrothermal carbonization (HTC). Thereafter, they were activated using KOH to generate activated carbons (HTC-ACs). Their functional groups were characterized using FT-IR, and the alteration of their chemical composition was traced by elementary analysis. Adsorption tests were performed with nitrogen (BET surface) and methylene blue as standard tests. The adsorption capacity was tested with WWTP effluent and the removal of UVA254 as a surrogate for OMP removal was measured. After HTC and activation 13–16% of the fibers dry mass was obtained as HTC-ACs. Higher dehydration and formation of aromatic structures on the HTC-ACs were detected with FT-IR as HTC and activation temperature increased. BET surface and methylene blue adsorption of some HTC-ACs was higher than the Reference AC. Nevertheless, their ability to reduce OMPs is still lower than the Reference AC due to the different nature of their functional groups and their microporous structure that is not fully accessible for OMPs in real wastewater.

The resultant ACs were characterized using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), CHNS/O analyzer, Na2S2O3 volumetric method and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). FTIR analysis of MK verified the presence of many functional groups resembling the lignocellulosic material and the absence of certain functional groups in the synthesized ACs indicated the removal of volatile compounds during the activation process. CHNS/O analysis confirmed the increase in Carbon % for all the prepared ACs. For example: 57.15 %, 53.63 %, 72.19 % for ZnCl2-AC, H3PO4-AC and KOH-AC respectively, compared to the raw MK which registered only 43.18 %. Iodine Number (IN) was found to increase in a trend as; ZnCl2-AC (1453.97 mgg-1) > H3PO4-AC (1299.30 mgg-1) > KOH-AC (1209.08 mgg-1). However, the yield percentage was maximum for H3PO4-AC (47.3 %) followed by ZnCl2-AC (45.7 %) and KOH-AC (8.4 %). In addition, no pores were observed for raw MK through the SEM analysis. However, SEM studies showed well-formation of porous structure for the synthesized ACs which suggested the role of activating agents during carbonization. This study proves the successful conversion of waste biomass into high quality ACsactivated carbon wholesale and to conclude, ZnCl2 was chosen as the most suitable activator to synthesize AC from MK due to its enhanced textural characteristics and moderate yield percentage compared to other activators.

Microporous coconut-based activated carbonwww.coconutactivatedcarbon.com was impregnated with solutions of ammonium metatungstate or ammonium molybdate and then calcined in air in order to convert the salts into their corresponding oxides. The surface of those materials was characterized using adsorption of nitrogen, potentiometric titration, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and thermal analysis. The results indicated a significant increase in surface acidity related to the presence of tungsten or molybdenum oxides. On the materials obtained, adsorption of ammonia from either dry or moist air was carried out. The oxides distributed on the surface provided Lewis and/or Brønsted centers for interactions with ammonia molecules or ammonium ions. Water on the surface of carbon or in the gas phase increased the amount of ammonia adsorbed via involvement of Brønsted-type interactions and/or by leading to the formation of molybdate or tungstate salts on the surface. Although the amount of ammonia adsorbed is closely related to the number of moles of oxides and their acidic centers, carbon pellets manufacturers usathe carbon surface also contributes to the adsorption via providing small pores where ammonia can be dissolved in the water film.

It was found that the contents of volatile compounds and flavor components were related to the type of cigarettes and the amount of tar. The contents of volatile compounds and flavor components were higher in the flue-cured cigarettes than in the mixed cigarettes, and higher in the high tar cigarettes than in the low tar cigarettes. The types of fragrance components in smoke of different types of cigarettes are basically the same, but there are great differences in content. The contents of furfural, furfuryl alcohol, maltol, 5-hydroxymethylfurfural, linolenic acid, methyl linolenic acid, linoleic acid, methyl palmitate and other components in flue-cured cigarettes were significantly higher than those in mixed cigarettes. This is related to the higher carbohydrate content in flue-cured cigarettes. Mixed-type cigarettes contain high content of 3-methylpentanoic acid and nitrogen heterocyclic compounds such as cotinine, ho ah, and methamine due to their formulations of burley tobacco and spice tobacco. The filtering law of activated carbon for different types of cigarettes is basically the same, that is, the filtering efficiency is related to the properties of compounds, especially with the molecular weight and boiling point of compounds. The filtration efficiency of activated carbon on flue-cured cigarettes was lower than that of mixed cigarettes.Urban sludge is a carbon material rich in organic matter. The preparation of activated carbon can not only solve the disposal problem of sludge, but also generate efficient and cheap adsorbent, which conforms to the scientific concept of circular economy and sustainable development.
In this paper, the sludge of the municipal sewage plant was used as raw material, and the activated carbon was prepared by chemical activation method, and the adsorption of lead and cadmium was studied with it, so as to realize the use of waste for waste control. The conclusions are as follows:(1) According to the relevant national standards, the sludge of Liede Sewage Treatment Plant is mainly composed of volatile organic compounds, with a volatile content of 64.86%, which can be used as the main raw material for the preparation of activated carbon.
(2) Without adding additives to the sludge, the concentration of sulfuric acid and zinc chloride is 4 mol·L' and the volume ratio is 2:1. The experimental results show that the adsorption equilibrium of pure components is in good agreement with the Langmuir equation.
In the case of multi-component adsorption, due to the competition and interference between each component, the component with strong adsorption ability can replace the other component that has been absorbed, so that the penetration curve of each component has obvious changes.
The penetration point of the components with relatively weak adsorption capacity was significantly advanced, while the penetration time of the components with strong adsorption capacity was delayed.
In this paper, E-L equation and IAST theory are used for theoretical prediction and analysis of multi-component adsorption equilibrium, and compared with experimental results.
