TORONTO – Blue Jays manager John Gibbons is still waiting for his first win under Major League Baseballs new challenge system; the skipper is 0-3 in the regular season, 0-6 including Grapefruit League play. Still, hes a supporter. "I think in the long run it will be good," said Gibbons. Gibbons didnt challenge a play in Wednesday nights win over the Astros, which, upon further review, may have been overturned. Ryan Goins was picked off first base in the sixth inning but it appeared first baseman Marc Krauss glove swept the dirt and tagged Goins high on the shoulder after the runner had touched the bag. The Blue Jays didnt have access to all replay angles; the angles they had were inconclusive. Gibbons has previously expressed regret that the challenge system has sapped the intensity of manager/umpire arguments. Hes worried about the in-game delays and the effect on pace of play. Rather than just complaining, Gibbons proposes a solution. "Keep it the way it is but dont give the teams the benefit of being able to look at it behind the scenes," he said. "I think if, itd be like the old days, you could go out and argue if you think the guy missed it that bad you go out and argue. Of course theyre not going to look at it. This way, then they can say, Okay, you think I missed it that bad, check it out. I think what happens when you have the ability to look at it behind the scenes, you can go out there on every close play there is. "In a lot of ways youre guessing. I think that slows the game down. If youre that serious about a particular call and you think he missed it, roll the dice without the benefit of looking at it." Gibbons incorrectly challenged a call in the fifth inning of Thursday nights game against Houston when the replay system confirmed Melky Cabrera was out on a bang-bang play at first base. WAGNERS LONG DAY Neil Wagner threw two scoreless innings in Torontos 7-3 win over Houston on Wednesday night. It was the culmination of a long day of travel for Wagner, who was recalled from Triple-A Buffalo. Wagner was in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, where the Bisons were getting ready to play the LeHigh Valley Ironpigs. He took an hour and a half taxi ride to the Philadelphia airport, flew to Toronto and arrived at the stadium 10 minutes before first pitch. "It was actually just kind of easy," said Wagner. "I just woke up, did my normal thing in the morning and then instead of going through the normal pre-game routine I was just travelling, got here and I was able to play a little catch." Wagner got his arm loose playing catch with left fielder Melky Cabrera at the start of each defensive inning. Casey Janssen and J.A. Happ are both expected to come off the disabled list sooner rather than later, which will create a logjam in the bullpen. Wagner is in his final option year, the reason he got sent down last month, and knows he could again fall victim to the business of the game. "Options are the one thing for free in this game that you dont want," said Wagner. "I cant control having them, I cant give them to other people so I have them and if I get optioned against at some point, so be it. Just keep doing what I do and hopefully at some point, be back." DELABAR RESTS Reliever Steve Delabar was in good humour one day after taking a line drive off the outside of his right leg, below the knee. The ball ricocheted to Edwin Encarnacion at first base, who stepped on the bag for the easy out. "That was the plan," said Delabar. "When I came out of the bullpen they said, if you get hit with a line drive make sure your leg is angled." Delabar is using the RICE treatment method with the bruising: Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation. While Delabar wont pitch on Thursday, he doesnt expect to miss any time. "I could go, yes," said Delabar. "But I think theyre going to be cautious with it." Custom Carolina Panthers Jerseys . "Yeah, [I heard them]," he said. "They made me miss the free throw." A year ago, Lowrys post-game antics may not have been so well received but what was snide and snarky is now endearing quick wit. Dontari Poe Panthers Jersey . Linemates Ryan Johansen and Boone Jenner each had a goal and an assist in the first period, and Sergei Bobrovsky made 36 saves to lead the Blue Jackets past the Florida Panthers 4-1 on Saturday night. http://www.shoppanthersonline.us/panthers-ian-thomas-blue-jersey/ . Louis against the Blues. The Canucks picked up their second straight victory in the swings opener on Tuesday in Calgary before getting routed in Minnesota last night, 5-1. Donte Jackson Jersey . The 23-year-old Poland international is back as first choice at Arsenal after losing his regular spot in the team on occasions over the last three seasons. Ian Thomas Panthers Jersey . First, the Red Wings scored the tying goal after officials missed the puck hitting the protective netting, then the Kings wound up losing in a shootout. That could affect playoff positioning in the Eastern and Western Conferences, and thats a concern for everyone.ST. PETERSBURG – Adam Lind visited with a foot specialist on Friday afternoon in Charlotte, North Carolina and the news, as reported by the club, is positive. While the specialist, Dr. Robert Anderson, confirmed a fracture of the first metatarsal, theres apparent clarification of Linds timeline to return. Hell be back in two to three weeks, not the six to eight weeks Lind suggested when confirming his diagnosis on Wednesday in Anaheim. When presented with Linds comment that he requested an MRI on his foot because his mother thought it would be a good idea, manager John Gibbons came the defence of the clubs medical and training staff. "That was already scheduled," said Gibbons. "(Head trainer) George (Poulis), they talked about when it started to bother him in Oakland." There remains confusion about who knew what and when it was known. Lind fouled a pitch off the top of his right foot on June 14 in Baltimore. He underwent an X-ray and a CT scan, both of which showed no break. After pinch-hitting in games on June 19 (New York), June 20 and 21 (Cincinnati), Lind returned to the starting lineup on June 23, a home game against the Yankees. He acknowledged to TSN.ca on June 23 that he hadnt returned to full health but felt he needed to be in the starting lineup following injuries to Brett Lawrie and Jose Bautista. Lind said, on Wednesday, hed been told by the specialist who read his CT scan that he could play as long as he could tolerate the pain; that he couldnt make the injury worse. What remains unclear is whether Lind was given bad advice. At this point its impossible to know whether the foot fractured because he played 17 games on it in a weakened state.dddddddddddd "Ive got no idea, Im not a doctor but its always a possibility," said Gibbons. Given the inability to go back in time, its also impossible to determine whether the CT scan missed the fracture. "It was starting to bother him again," said Gibbons. "When he first had the CT scan they didnt see anything and then he started feeling pretty good. He was productive in some limited roles and then it started bothering him again." Gibbons then appealed to a Canadians hockey mentality. "Its big league baseball, man," said Gibbons. "Play when you can play and he was productive." Lind was to speak to the media after Friday nights game. Hes due to arrive in the Tampa Bay area, from Charlotte, while his teammates play the first of a three-game series against the Rays. In the fifth inning, the media were informed that general manager Alex Anthopoulos would be speaking post-game. Lind, the club said, "wasnt available." It will be interesting to hear the explanation of Linds timeline. The prognosis is six to eight weeks from the time of the injury (June 14) rather than from Tuesdays MRI. Under that premise, the two to three week scenario presented by the Blue Jays makes sense. The club released a statement at 4:13pm et. on Friday afternoon. Arriving players hadnt heard the news that Lind could return as early as late this month. They seemed surprised. "Thats not what Lind told me," said one player, who interpreted a conversation he had with Lind to mean that Lind was six to eight weeks away from playing again. Make of it what you will. Whats a little more confusion? Its been clear as mud up to now.
